Magnus Jensen cfcca6a6ac Handle not found bootstrap package in GitOps flows (#46802)
<!-- Add the related story/sub-task/bug number, like Resolves #123, or
remove if NA -->
**Related issue:** Resolves #45441

The issue is when hitting the `svc.DeleteMDMAppleBootstrapPackage` via
the API/UI, it only clears the row in `mdm_apple_bootstrap_packages`.
However when GitOps runs the next time, it compares the old team config,
which has a stale `macos_setup.bootstrap_package` config value. Which
forces it to call the same Delete method again. This PR adds the
defensive approach to gracefully handle a not found bootstrap package
when GitOps wants to delete it.
The reason the second run works, is that we only attempt to delete the
bootstrap package after we called SaveTeam with the new empty
`bootstrap_package` value. So next run sees it as empty and avoid
calling the Delete method.

_One question is if we want to add a more active approach on the delete
service method, which also handles updating the team config clearing out
this value? That would have prevented the cause, I think either keeping
only this layer, or doing both solutions is a good approach._

Jordan Montgomery 356caea6fd 42508 Rename abm to ab in API (#46657)
<!-- Add the related story/sub-task/bug number, like Resolves #123, or

**Related issue:** Resolves #42508

Renames abm/apple_business_manager to ab/apple_business in API and
fleetctl. Uses existing renameto logic with a slight twist: added
"inline" option to handle cases particularly where a single object tree
has renames in multiple versions so that we don't break backwards
compatibiility since the default behavior when you have multi-level
renames is a new/old split at the top level

## Summary by CodeRabbit

* **New Features**
* Route-aware OpenTelemetry trace sampling with tiered default ratios
(very low for select high-volume routes, reduced rate for admin reads,
full sampling otherwise).
* Admin-only GET/PATCH /debug/trace_sampler to view and update sampling
ratios and a runtime "force full" toggle.
* Liveness probe endpoints (/healthz, /version, /metrics) are excluded
from tracing; settings propagate to replicas at runtime without restart.

Jonathan Katz 57d78c54d1 Self-service categories - migration (#46488)
<!-- Add the related story/sub-task/bug number, like Resolves #123, or
remove if NA -->
**Related issue:** Resolves #46390
Migration to add a non nullable team_id column. I chose this approach so
that server code doesn't have to deal with a potentially null team id
for categories. It first adds team_id=0 to all the existing categories,
then duplicates that for every fleet so that default categories can be
edited and deleted by admins.

It also renames the default categories to include the emojis in their
name, which required updating some test expectations, and also mapping
default names to the new ones for Fleet maintained apps. If we don't do
that, FMA's manifests would have to all be updated right after 4.87
releases and every user would have to migrate immediately. This would
also break existing gitops files if the names aren't mapped. The
alternative would be to keep the names unchanged, and add custom logic
in various places to insert the emojis in the backend and frontend.

Magnus JensenandClaude b42a154cf6 Optimize Apple profile reconciler approach by moving logic to code (#45573)
<!-- Add the related story/sub-task/bug number, like Resolves #123, or
remove if NA -->
**Related issue:** Closes #46153

This PR is big, but I found it worth it to include in the same PR to
keep the mental change context in one place.

This PR moves away from our previous version of a big SQL computing the
desired state and label membership with big union branches. It does so
by switching the model up completely, first:
- We batch read hosts (current hardcoded is 5k), and we always iterate
5k hosts and then decide if they have changes, so that means a tick
(30s) could read 5k hosts that DOES NOT require changes, but that is
computed in code after, rather than relying on a big SQL to do it
(twice).
- We then for those hosts, bulk fetch label memberships, their related
team profiles and current rows. This performs much better as we can
lookup everything we need by primary key or super fast indexed columns,
simple fetch all these calls.
- Then once gathered the information we move to the code to determine if
the operation is install, remove, NO-OP (Desired state calculation),
then we check the label membership to further determine it's final
action.
- We then move to what we did before, which is queue the correct command
etc.

It comes with some slight caveats, which is we now load a lot more data
into memory (but before we could spike worse), so when loadtesting we
watched CPU/Memory utilization, which never seemed to spike as the
datasets are kept as small as possible.

_Cleanup will come in a follow-up PR where we remove all the old code._

Scott GressandCopilot Autofix powered by AI 4daed869ad Add API param linter (#44045)
Adds a linter to ensure we don't add new instances of `team` or `query`
in API params. This will be used incrementally, but this PR also adds
`nolint` directives to places that still have these terms, both to avoid
false-positives later and to help with full migration away from these
terms in in Fleet 5.

Example:

```
server/fleet/campaigns.go:51:16: json tag "team_id": uses deprecated "team"/"teams" — use "fleet"/"fleets" instead (apiparamcheck)
        Team  *uint   `json:"team_id,omitempty"`
```

<!-- This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai
-->
## Summary by CodeRabbit

* **New Features**
* Added a new static analyzer (apiparamcheck) to flag deprecated API
parameter names ("team/teams") and improper usages of "query/queries".

* **Chores**
  * Integrated the new check into CI tooling and configuration.
  * Added analyzer tests and plugin registration.
* Applied targeted lint-suppression annotations across code and tests
where legacy parameter names must remain.

Konstantin Sykulev 6ed3ba6801 Added OTEL DB stats metrics, renamed trace attributes to expected OTEL names (#42097)
1. Added DB metrics via otelsql.RegisterDBStatsMetrics()
`db.sql.connection.open`
`db.sql.connection.max_open`
`db.sql.connection.wait`
`db.sql.connection.wait_duration`
`db.sql.connection.closed_max_idle`
`db.sql.connection.closed_max_idle_time`
`db.sql.latency.*`
2. renamed these metrics to signoz convention/expected names
`db.sql.connection.open` -> `db.client.connection.usage`
`db.sql.connection.max_open` -> `db.client.connection.max`
`db.sql.connection.wait` -> `db.client.connection.wait_count`
`db.sql.connection.wait_duration` -> `db.client.connection.wait_time`
`db.sql.connection.closed_max_idle` -> `db.client.connection.idle.max`
`db.sql.connection.closed_max_idle_time` ->
`db.client.connection.idle.min`
3. created custom dashboard to display these metrics, (import via json)
<img width="1580" height="906" alt="Screenshot 2026-03-19 at 2 44 43 PM"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/f1b64ed6-e534-4490-8955-bc1205dd21d4"
/>
4. Fixed metrics for service db dashboards
Signoz expects

`db.system` : Identifies the database type (e.g., postgresql, mysql,
mongodb).
`db.statement` : The actual query being executed (e.g., SELECT * FROM
users).
`db.operation` : The type of operation (e.g., SELECT, INSERT).
`service.name` : The name of the service making the call.

We needed to set the `db.system` attribute explicitly.

`db.operation` is missing because otelsql doesn't capture this by
default. Decided not to add this for now as the dashboards work without.
Can be a future enhancement.

# Details

Solves two issues in 4.82:

1. The `fleet_id` param in `POST /software/fleet_maintained_apps` wasn't
being read, causing all FMAs using that param to be added to fleet ID 0
(unassigned aka No Team)
2. We were logging deprecation warnings for body params even if the
topic was turned off, meaning Fleet would generate deprecation warnings
in certain cases that users wouldn't be able to fix.

Scott Gress 01d13f5080 add keymap for new renames, and shallow duplication (#41682)
<!-- Add the related story/sub-task/bug number, like Resolves #123, or

**Related issue:** For #41091

# Details

This PR finishes the work of aliasing multi-platform keys by:

* Added the renames to the list maintained by generate-gitops so that
`fleetctl get` can use the new names
* Updated the code that adds the new names to API and `fleetctl get`
output to only add new nested keys under new parents, e.g. add
`apple_settings.configuration_profiles`, but not
`macos_settings.configuration_profiles`.

The API key duplicator now runs through `RewriteDeprecatedKeys` which is
a little heavier per-token, but for old keys we're doing less work so I
think this ends up being slightly more performant than before, at least
for large payloads.

<!-- Add the related story/sub-task/bug number, like Resolves #123, or

**Related issue:** Resolves #41385

# Details

This PR updates `fleetctl` to use the new API urls and params when
communicating with Fleet server. This avoids deprecation warnings
showing up on the server that users won't be able to fix.

Most of the changes are straightforward `team_id` -> `fleet_id`. A
couple of code changes have been pointed out. The most interesting is in
icon URLs, which can be persisted in the database (so we'll need to do a
migration in Fleet 5 if we want to drop support for `team_id`.

Similarly the FMA download urls are briefly persisted in the db for the
purpose of sending MDM commands. If we drop team_id support in Fleet 5
there could be a brief window where there are unprocessed commands in
the db still with `team_id` in them, so we'll probably want to migrate
those as well.

Ian LittmanandClaude cd439f6125 Fix data race in ErrorWithUUID.UUID() causing CI test failures (#40961)
Resolves #40857.

The scheduled CI runs (with -race enabled) were failing due to a data
race in ErrorWithUUID.UUID(). The race occurred between:
- HTTP response encoding calling UUID() to lazily initialize the uuid
field
- Error store background goroutine calling Error() via value-receiver
methods, which copies the struct (including the uuid field) concurrently
- Logging calls

Fix:
1. Use sync.Once for thread-safe lazy UUID initialization
2. Change all value-receiver methods on types embedding ErrorWithUUID to
pointer receivers to prevent struct copying that triggers the race
3. Add isNotFoundErr() helper to replace broken errors.Is/errors.As
patterns that relied on value-type error comparisons

From Claude Code Web (ported from my personal fork due to repo access
level required). I've read through the code prior to submitting this PR.
Prompt:

> The scheduled run of .github/workflows/test-go.yaml has had a bunch of
errors in integration tests, starting recently. set up and run the tests
(including race detection) as if you were running in GotHub Actions,
then figure out when the issue was introduced, and what needs to happen
to fix the test errors.

I expect that smoketests and continued during-dev validation of `main`
leading up to 4.83.0 will be sufficient manual testing here.

# Details

This PR adds a new system for registering deprecated URLs separately
from the main URLs (i.e. not clogging up `handler.go` with a bunch of
`.WithAltPaths()` or similar. It uses a registry that's shared between
all the different endpointer, which is then iterated over and a new
handler is created for the deprecated endpoint which stores info about
the deprecation (the old and new URLs) in the context. A new middleware
looks for that context info and, if found, logs a deprecation warning
(if the topic is enabled).

Scott Gressandkiloconnect[bot] 34e7b5c358 Deprecate "team" and "query" API params (#39873)
<!-- Add the related story/sub-task/bug number, like Resolves #123, or
remove if NA -->
**Related issue:** For #39344

# Details

This PR builds on the previous PR
(https://github.com/fleetdm/fleet/pull/39847) which added `renameto`
tags to certain API parameters to mark them as deprecated. How this is
used:

### In requests

* When decoding requests, log a warning if a `json` or `query` param is
used that has a `renameto` tag, e.g. if a `team_id` param is sent but
the related struct has `renameto:"fleet_id"` in it.
* If the `renamedto` version (e.g. `fleet_id`) is sent in the request,
rewrite it to the deprecated name so that it can be unmarshalled into
the struct
* If both versions are sent (e.g. `team_id` AND `fleet_id`), throw an
error and quit
* URLs with deprecated terms have new aliases using `WithAltPaths` --
warning on using old URLSs a TODO that will be handled in a subsequent
PR.

### In responses

* Output _both_ the deprecated and new names for fields that have
`renameto` tags, so that we don't break existing workflows expecting the
old keys. Uses a shared `DuplicateJSONKeys` to do the duplication.
* Most API responses are handled in `EncodeCommonResponse`. Exceptions
are activities, failing policy webhooks and the streaming "list hosts"
endpoints which call the function directly.

### In fleetctl

* Similar to requests, log warnings when deprecated keys are used and
rewrite the new keys internally so that they can be unmarshalled.
* For `fleetctl get` and `fleetctl generate-gitops`, _only_ output the
new names
* The set of keys to replace is hardcoded in `fleetctl` rather than
being dynamically generated as it is for API endpoints. Given the
mixture of typed and untyped data and the level of nesting, dynamic map
generation was very fragile and error-prone.

### Performance considerations

* The biggest performance hit is the addition of the JSON key rewriter
to the request pipeline. The rewriter buffers the entire request into
memory before eventually passing it to the decoder than unmarshals the
data into structs. I tried implementing this as a true streaming
rewriter but encountered issues where the request would hang if the
downstream reader (the decoder) encountered any errors. It's possible we
could implement this in a streaming fashion if we replace our [current
request
decoder](https://github.com/fleetdm/fleet/blob/da43bf8371695382c4af0972d5da456c6b94bdaf/server/service/endpoint_utils.go#L108)
with the v2 version, which is a bigger change requiring more thoughtful
discussion in the engineering team. As it stands, memory usage for
requests with deprecated fields will double while the request is being
decoded.
* The "alias rules" used to determine the old and new key names are
cached per struct type and for most endpoints are generated on server
start, so no performance impact is expected.
* Some `fleetctl` commands may have an extra unmarshal/marshal step but
as these are user-initiated and not performed in tight loops, the impact
should be minimal.

### TODO

* Log deprecation warnings when old URLs like "/fleet/teams" are used
* Update API fields that the front-end uses to avoid deprecation
warnings
* Update `fleetctl apply` to accept/return `kind: fleet` rather than
`kind: team`
* Find/update any fleet server config vars with old language
* Update all error messages that use old language

<!-- Add the related story/sub-task/bug number, like Resolves #123, or

**Related issue:** Resolves #38889

This is preparatory work before incrementally converting datastore/mysql
files to directly use *slog.Logger.
This will be done by using `logger.SlogLogger()` to get the underlying
`*slog.Logger`

## Summary by CodeRabbit

* **Bug Fixes**
* Health checks now detect a primary DB becoming read-only and report
failure so the service restarts and reconnects to a writable primary.
* Write failures due to DB read-only state now trigger immediate fatal
handling to prompt graceful shutdown and recovery.
* Improved detection and handling of read-only DB conditions to increase
stability during failovers.

Victor Lyuboslavsky aaac4b1dfe Changes needed before gokit/log to slog transition. (#39527)
<!-- Add the related story/sub-task/bug number, like Resolves #123, or
remove if NA -->
**Related issue:** Resolves #38889

PLEASE READ BELOW before looking at file changes

Before converting individual files/packages to slog, we generally need
to make these 2 changes to make the conversion easier:
- Replace uses of `kitlog.With` since they are not fully compatible with
our kitlog adapter
- Directly use the kitlog adapter logger type instead of the kitlog
interface, which will let us have direct access to the underlying slog
logger: `*logging.Logger`

Note: that I did not replace absolutely all uses of `kitlog.Logger`, but
I did remove all uses of `kitlog.With` except for these due to
complexity:
- server/logging/filesystem.go and the other log writers (webhook,
firehose, kinesis, lambda, pubsub, nats)
- server/datastore/mysql/nanomdm_storage.go (adapter pattern)
- server/vulnerabilities/nvd/* (cascades to CLI tools)
- server/service/osquery_utils/queries.go (callback type signatures
cascade broadly)
- cmd/maintained-apps/ (standalone, so can be transitioned later all at
once)

Most of the changes in this PR follow these patterns:
- `kitlog.Logger` type → `*logging.Logger`
- `kitlog.With(logger, ...)` → `logger.With(...)`
- `kitlog.NewNopLogger() → logging.NewNopLogger()`, including similar
variations such as `logging.NewLogfmtLogger(w)` and
`logging.NewJSONLogger(w)`
- removed many now-unused kitlog imports

Unique changes that the PR review should focus on:
- server/platform/logging/kitlog_adapter.go: Core adapter changes
- server/platform/logging/logging.go: New convenience functions
- server/service/integration_logger_test.go: Test changes for slog
