**Related issue:** Resolves#43973
Fixes a few bugs regarding managed app configurations. Includes a few
cherry-picks for commits that were supposed to be merged, but got
overwritten by subsequent PRs that didn't get pushed properly while
working with the github stack.
Also includes some more integration test cases.
